The wonderful thing about the Dundees being located toward the northern part of the Midwest is that we enjoy each of the four seasons distinctly and fully. Each brings its own mood and activities. The variety adds richness to the tapestry of life in Illinois. WINTER is a classic mix of cold, sunny days and snowy ones. There is nothing more magical than a fresh snowfall. Nothing more fun either. Kids and the young at heart in the Dundee area enjoy sledding, making snowmen, cross country skiing and even ice skating on the Fox River when the conditions are right. According to our closest weather station, which is in Elgin (5 miles south) the temperatures in January range between 11 - 28 F. As with any average, some days see a warmer high or a colder night, but this figure gives you a general sense of our winter climate. SPRING is somewhat cool and temperamental like it is in many parts of the country, but it brings a fresh energy and excitement as temperatures begin to rise and plants begin to grow again. In April the thermometer averages between lows of 36 F up to 58 F for the highs. We enjoy an increasing number of days that reach the upper 60s and lower 70s though too. East and West Dundee are absolutely beautiful in the SUMMER! The Fox River that runs between East and West Dundee provides an opportunity for every water activity imaginable—swimming, fishing, canoeing, kayaking or just strolling or biking along the banks. East Dundee has a wonderful bike path that parallels the river. In July the temperatures range between 62 – 83 F. While we sometimes see days in the 90s, we are happy to leave long, super hot summers to our neighbors in the South. Summer here is hot enough to satisfy that urge to play outdoors in shorts and a tee shirt, but it doesn’t become oppressive by overstaying its welcome. FALL is as exciting as spring. It is a season of anticipation, movement and change. The shift to cool crisp days and chilly nights is very invigorating. Ya gotta love that smell of wood smoke and damp leaves as the season progresses. The trees up here are brilliant and gorgeous in autumn. Everything glows and is becoming more muted at the same time. In October temperatures range between 40 – 62 F. Perfect for taking woodland hikes or raking leaves. One of the reasons the Dundee area is so beautiful from season to season is that we receive a perfect amount of rainfall throughout the year. Trees, flowers and grass thrive here. Our forests are lush. It is easy to grow thick, soft lawns and gardening is easy—such a wide variety of plants grows here. The average annual precipitation here is 37.2 inches.
